Couples Therapy in Fort Lauderdale
Wherever you are in your relationship, crisis, crossroads, or a conscious beginning, Halo Therapy Group is the bridge between where you are and where you're meant to be.
Couples Therapy Isn't Just for Crisis
When most people think about couples therapy, they picture a last resort, two people sitting across from each other after everything has already fallen apart, trying to salvage something that might already be gone. But that's only one version of this work.
Couples therapy is also for partners who love each other, want to stay together, and are simply finding that the relationship isn't working the way they'd like it to.
Some of the most common reasons couples come to Halo Therapy Group include:
Navigating a major life transition together (a new baby, a career change, a move, a loss)
Sexual intimacy that has faded and doesn't seem to be coming back on its own
Feeling disconnected or emotionally distant from each other
Repeating conflicts; the same argument, different day
Difficulty communicating without it escalating into a fight
Rebuilding after a breach of trust; whether that's infidelity or something else
Wanting to build a stronger foundation before marriage
Whatever brought you here, you don't have to be in crisis for this work to make an impact.
What's Happening in Sessions
One of the most common questions couples have before starting therapy is, what does a session actually look like?
The first session is mostly about getting to know you, your relationship history, what's brought you to therapy now, and what you each hope to get out of it. We'll start to understand the patterns that have been showing up and what you're both working with.
After the first session, we spend sessions two and three getting to know each of you individually and in session four, we come back together to share what we've learned and build a personalized roadmap for moving forward.
Following our assessment, we move to “working” sessions. We're building specific skills, having guided conversations that are hard to have alone, and developing a shared understanding of what's actually happening in the relationship underneath the surface.
Between sessions, you'll likely notice things differently. Picking up on patterns you didn't see before or having conversations a little differently. The work doesn't stay in the session room, it tends to show up in the relationship itself.
Our Approach
Couples therapy at Halo Therapy Group is collaborative. We are grounded in systemic therapy approaches, but we integrate Gottman Method Couples Therapy. An extensively researched modality to understanding relationships.
In practice, this means sessions focus on real, applicable skills:
How to navigate conflict without it escalating
How to stay connected during stressful seasons
How to repair after arguments rather than letting them linger
How to build the kind of friendship and trust that relationships are actually built on.
There is structure to this work. You'll have a sense of what we're working toward and why. Not just an open-ended process with no clear direction.
Sessions are conducted in-person in Fort Lauderdale or online throughout the state of Florida; giving you and your partner the flexibility to attend in a way that best suites your needs.
Common Questions About Couples Therapy
-
Our training is systemic, and that shapes everything about how we work with couples. We integrate Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Bowen Family Systems Theory approaches that help couples examine the relational patterns, family-of-origin influences, and personal narratives that often drive conflict without either partner realizing it.
We also incorporate the Gottman Method for its practical, research-backed tools around communication and trust-building. It's a comprehensive approach that addresses both the roots of the dynamic and the day-to-day skills that make relationships work.
And when betrayal or conflict has left one or both partners carrying individual trauma responses, we draw on EMDR to address what's stuck at the nervous system level, not just the relational one. Healing a relationship sometimes requires healing the person inside it too, and we're trained to hold both at once.
-
At Halo Therapy Group, we offer two main pathways for people dealing with betrayal trauma. The first is individual therapy utilizing EMDR techniques, for anyone who needs space to process the trauma of infidelity on their own terms, whether or not they're still in the relationship.
The second is betrayal trauma and affair recovery, for partners who want to work through this together with guidance and structure.
-
Yes. We work with couples navigating the aftermath of infidelity using a systemic, trauma-informed approach integrated with the Gottman Method.
Providing structure and guidance through what is often one of the most disorienting experiences a couple can face.

Choosing the right therapist for relationship issues is one of the most personal decisions you'll make and it deserves real thought.
A few things worth considering:
What is the clinician's background and training?
Do they specialize in what you're actually dealing with?
And perhaps most importantly, do you feel comfortable with this person?
You're going to be sharing some of the most intimate details of your life and your relationship. The connection matters.
We always encourage clients to treat the consultation like an interview. Ask questions. Notice how you feel during the conversation, not just what is said, but what is evoked in you when you connect with that therapist. Trust and comfort aren't extras, they're the foundation.
Please know, if you start with someone and it doesn't feel right, you're allowed to move on. Finding the right fit is part of the process.
At Halo Therapy Group, we are working in partnership with you and that means your feedback about how sessions are going is always welcome. If something isn't workin, we want to know.
We would rather adjust and keep going than have you quietly disengage from a process that could genuinely help.
